Guessing the explanation somehow involved Corey Powell watching/reading the script to Dragon Quest, saying “wait this doesn’t make sense” and wanting to fix it. Just saying that she could have done worse.
To be honest, even Williams realized how terrible that Spike went to with his plan for Peewee was. Why do you think she made him like some part of being a dragon?
I guess it would bother me a lot less if they even explained how Spike and Twilight found any pair of phoenixes rather than doing it offscreen.
Heck, just give a proper explanation for why Peewee had to go instead of not feeling like using the character.
Yeah, but it was more important to Spike that he live with his parents (?) than him.
He realized Peewee could have what he always wanted and he didn’t want to take it from him.
The thing is, Spike never took Peewee away from his/her parents. Spike took an abandoned egg and gave it a home.
Peewee would have died in the egg if Spike had left it alone, and given that Peewee hatched late as it was, might not have hatched at all even if the nest wasn’t destroyed.
Because the show staff was having enough trouble working Owlowiscious into the show, and didn’t want to try to deal with yet another character in the same building.
It’s funny, after “Dragon Quest” the comments were something like 90% “How could they let Spike take a baby from its parents in the wild?” Now it’s 90% “How could they make Spike take his pet back to its parents in the wild?”
Maybe…just maybe…they realized that asking a wild being to completely reject what they are as unfit for their current society isn’t exactly fair when they have other options?
Not that it’s fair with options, but we don’t know enough about Spike’s origins to say for sure.
Sure, what you are doesn’t have to be who you are. But you don’t have to throw the baby out with the bath water and suppress EVERYTHING. There’s good parts to being a dragon, and even Spike knows that. I just wonder if ponies do…
You seem to be missing the point. Spike and Peewee were basically in the same boat. Albeit unintentional, Twilight was a bit cruel there.
Why not ask for help from Fluttershy or Princess Celestia is taking care of Peewee?
Do you really think he could handle a wild animal?
I’m laughing for the last 5 minutes.
The comic writer is the first person to say that, yeah. I’ve been assuming that they just dumped Peewee in the first phoenix nest that they found, on account of the nigh impossibility of tracking down Peewee’s parents in particular.
Well, that and because the phoenices in the episode didn’t have any children, unlike Peewee’s parents. Peewee’s siblings wouldn’t be that much older than Peewee.
Did they say they gave him back to his parents specifically in the show? The comic writer could have just thought that.
The animal that appeared by flying into her house one night, yes. Aloysius wasn’t any more sapient than Peewee, he just needed less training. That seems to be the main reason that they got rid of Peewee.
Creatures of habit that return to nests?
The nest that was destroyed in an attack?
Getting another phoenix or two to take in Peewee is one thing. Finding the parents that already abandoned Peewee is another entirely, and kind of bullshit on multiple levels.
A “wild animal” that is completely sapient and isn’t cared for by her, but rather cares for her. Plus, his parents are out of the picture.
@Sjogre
Creatures of habit that return to nests? Celestia knows where they all go? Who knows.
There’s also the question of how they tracked down Peewee’s parents. The last that Spike saw them, they were flying into the distance.
Twilight Sparkle is keeping a wild animal as a pet.
I think that being a baby was more of an issue that being technically wild.
Yeah, that would’ve made a good episode.
It had horrible implications that showed how unfit Williams is to write his character.
Not me, but I’m still disappointed in how they got rid of him. Spike embarking on an adventure to return Pee Wee to his parents had huge potential for an episode and a friendship lesson, and they totally threw it right out the window.
If I find higher res, I will mark for merge up.
I just checked the itunes store via browswer, its not there yet. But that usually follows within the day.
