Chapter 2
“Spike, I know I said Id follow you anywhere after you saved my life, but Im telling you, I really dont think its a good idea to go towards the creepy, menacing, green-lava erupting mountain.” Sharp continued trying to dissuade Spike from continuing on his self-inflicted mission.
The two young dragons walked along the mountains ridge, in the direction of Spiral Mountain, the mysterious mountain where Sharp said was where a lot of ridge dragons had gone missing weeks prior. They had taken off mid-morning after sleeping in after the ordeal they had just experienced last night. Spike donned his red travel bag, and lent Sharp a piece of cloth to use as a sling for his small collection of gems. The journey would take a few days walking, Sharp estimated, should things go smoothly.
“You remember last night, and that demon of a diamond dog that showed up,” Sharp recalled, “What if we run into more of those things? If anything, we should be going in the opposite direction of Spiral Mountain, you’ve got a place we could stay after all this blows over, right? Someone one else will take care of this eventually, why does it have to be us?
“I remembered how I kicked its butt,” Spike proudly commented. “I get that youre not used to this kind of stuff, but Ive experienced unknown horrors and evils before, and that thing wasnt nearly as bad as some of the creatures Ive faced,” Spike reassured smugly. “No use waiting for someone else to come along and do what we know what were capable of, as long as Im here, weve got a counter to those things.” Spike said with a small poof of green flame.
“I still dont quite understand how your green flame was able to weaken those demons to the point of exploding.” Sharp inquired.
“I dont really understand myself,” Spike thought. “But it works, and thats good enough for me.”
“And if we run into more than one?” Sharp continued to get Spike to change his mind, You took out one fine, but Im no good at fighting, do you think you could take on more than one?
A twinkle shone in Spikes eyes, Maybe well run into other dragons and I can recruit them into joining us! Images of Spike becoming the party leader in a group of dragons, taking on a large demon guarding the cages of captured dragons, heroically leading them into battle. It would just be like those D&D games he played with Shinning Armor and his friends.
“If there are any other dragons left, let alone crazy enough to help us,” Sharp sighed.
“Hey,” Spike chirped up, “if those things are connected in any way to the disappearing dragons, then weve got a lead that could help us find out if there is something or someone behind what happened to the missing dragons,” Spike reasoned, “Im sure if its for self-preservation, other dragons will totally be willing to help.”
“I just hope we dont end up being disappeared.” Sharp responded as they continued to walk along the mountain path.
