Background Pony #2AF4
I can’t be the only seeing that Lyra and Bon Bon were going in for a kiss before Derpy intervened, right?

Well, for Lyra and Bonbon we have that one animator to thank for who kept putting them together in bg scenes. Derpy was definitely a fandom nod with her Wally thing thorough season 2.

So in a sense it was logical to make one of Lyra & BonBon’s bg scenes Derpy-related. L & B already had some notoriority at the time, so in a sense this was a show of popular bg ponies together. But they couldn’t possibly foresee how much more Lyra’s popularity will rise - even rivaling Derpy’s! -, or that the three will stand together in the “background six”.

Though when I look back, there weren’t that many other candidates, were there? Colgate & Berry, who still came retain their miny-fandoms. The Flower Trio have sort of fallen to the wayside. Little Strongheart & Braeburn were bound to be forgotten since we were not going back to Appleoosa.

I recently noticed this in Secret to My Excess, and I immediately wondered if this was done on purpose as a nod to the fandom. You know, getting the three most popular background ponies together for a moment.
