This is actually a reply to >>489715 showing the Twiface on the Adventures in Ponyville DVD’s foreign release, but I figured there’s enough interesting information here to warrant a full post. The US release of Adventures in Ponyville is a curious footnote in FiM history. It was I believe the second standalone FiM video release–actually preceding the current Shout! Factory line–and was noted to be of low quality.

Bear in mind even now its price on Amazon is similar to the Shout! factory, and at times its price has inflated rather highly.

Here’s a snapshot of the back if you’re so inclined. ~~I got a copy from an Amazon vendor still sealed for now as it is a collector’s item (being a relatively rare and obscure item),~~ but apparently it’s so bad it actually played a Hub commerical before each episode on the disc. (Update: I somehow confused my copy with the actual first release, Celebration at Canterlot.)

BTW, I do have a copy of this now, but it seems difficult to get an unmarked copy off Amazon; all the sellers seem to have only cases with marked-out UPCs and torn sleeves in the back. I have watched it and can confirm it is in 480p and looks good for DVD–and that it has commercials at the start of each episode for the Hub, FiM, and Family Night.

As it seems difficult to get this in near-mint/mint, if you find an intact copy of the case in good shape, it might be worth picking up as a minor collector’s investment. Otherwise, pass unless it’s really cheap or free, and having a DVD copy benefits you some way.
