On a second watch, yeah, those are definitely tridents.
 
The ninjato vs. katana debate’s a bit less clear-cut though. According to Peter Laird, Leo originally dual-wielded a set of katana… But the fact that they’re usually depicted with no curve whatsoever’s always caused confusion, especially for people who’ve worked on the toons, games and toys over the years.
 
I’ve just accepted that the ninjaken’s design is far more iconic at this point.
