Cadence is not centuries old. She was depicted like a teen when she was babysitting Twilight.

Rainbow Energy is actually incredibly powerful and allows Rainbow to be immortal. Of course, she never asked for this. :C

Celestia and Luna aren’t immortal because they’re alicorns. They’re immortal because they’ve been using Age spells on themselves to keep them young over the centuries.
 
The Age spell is a cheat, though–it doesn’t give you more life; it just puts the aging process “on hold” until the spell wears off or is dispelled. If Celestia or Luna stopped using them, they’d crumble to dust like the Mummy. In a way, they’re trapped–they can no longer live a “normal” life, because “normally” they would’ve died thousands of years ago.
 
Princess Cadance and Princess Twilight Sparkle are still fairly young and may not have learned the Age spell yet. And they may not choose to go down the same path Celestia and Luna did. After all, Cadance may not want to spend centuries as a widow, and Twilight may not wish to outlive all of her friends.

…for that matter, just how much of Equestria IS natural anyways? All the magic they throw around makes their reality look as exploitable as the Source engine; heck, Discord is practically Garry’s Mod incarnate.

At this point, I doubt there’s any such thing as a “natural” alicorn.

Ageless. There’s a difference. She could have lived forever, but… well, yeah.

Immortal? No. Ageless? Probably.

Dash, artificial alicorns aren’t immortal like Celestia and Luna are. She was gonna die eventually.

At least you can take comfort in the fact that you’ll see her again when you die. If Twilight was immortal, you’d never see her again!

Interesting concept for a fanfic/sad fic.
 
After Twilight became an alicorn though no one ever really wanted to say anything the fact that Twilight would now outlive them all and thus would eventually be forced to watch each of them die had been an unsaid worry, but as it turned out they would all out live her turning everything they thought they knew on its head.

No one said she couldn’t die.

When I looked at the tags for this, most of the author’s name got cut off, so I thought there was a bacon tag.

Well, I guess someone should have told her that.
