It was apparently deliberate, Disney believed in Frozen’s quality enough to market it for little kids and their parents, while relying on word of mouth for teens and long time fans.
Better Details here
My wife and I were both like, “Ugh. Really? An annoying sidekick?”
“….”
“…well….”
“….we actaully like him.”
“…a lot.”
So yeah. He won us over. It’ll be fine. :)
I was dreading the snowman too.
Everything went better than expected.
Dang.
Now I really do have to see that movie.
Set a wager on it: you win if he admits (honestly) that he actually likes the snowman. Easy money. :)

It makes me sad that a friend doesn’t want to see it solely because he thinks the snowman will be annoying
That’s because it’s good. Disney’s marketing is horrendous, so I initially wasn’t interested in seeing it. But while their marketing failed, word of mouth got on the ball and I was convinced to give it a try based on some friends’ recommendation. I’ve seen it a few times now and I still can’t get enough. Even the snowman – who I feared would be the annoying comic relief – was actually a pretty good character. YMMV on this, but I feel that it’s the best Disney animated movie since The Lion King. Anyway, if Frozen doesn’t win any awards, I’ll have some serious doubts about the integrity of the awards bodies.
You have no idea….
Its a masterpiece!
<tears>
I’ve been hearing alot of praise for that movie.
