Before FiM, “girl” shows were never given any real effort to be entertaining in their own right.

Honestly, G1 had the villain Tirek, a minocentaur who rode around in a chariot pulled by dragons who planned to kidnap ponies so he could torture them and transform them into MORE dragons. Which would helped him take over the world because then he’d have an army of fucking dragons.
 
That right there is enough to make G1 awesome.

Personally I never found G1 to be good. Atleast not in the same way as G4. As 80’s silliness, it’s quite amusing. And theres a certain degree of respect to be had toward it, since it’s obvious with that one they atleast put some effort.
 
G3…we don’t speak of that.

G1 wasn’t as great as FIM, but it was still damn good in its own right. (On top of that, Lauren was inspired mainly by G1; without it we would not have Friendship Is Magic)  
I don’t really have anything to say about G1.5, as I haven’t seen it, but I’ve heard both very good and very bad things about it.  
G3 was awfulness with one or two small patches of legitimately interesting ideas that failed to make the rest of it worthwhile.  
G3.5 was awfulness distilled, and should burn in fire.
 
EQG? I think the concept was workable, but the execution deeply flawed.
 
But again, G1 was actually pretty good, despite being an 80s cartoon; I would recommend you watch The Return Of Tambelon or Rescue At Midnight Castle before you judge it too harshly.

The way they were marketing it, I thought Equestria Girls WAS the 30th anniversary special. Not that it makes a lick of sense as such: “We’re celebrating thirty years of Pony by getting rid of the pony!” But that’s how it was sold in the press releases.

Well, look at it this way: It could have been worse.
 
They could have gone the Spider-Man route and celebrated by bringing back Megan, killing her off by having Tirek take over her body and forcing her off.
 
And then having all the ponies not only not notice Tiregan being radically different, but liking her more than the actual Megan.

-G1-3.5 were all the very worst kind of tripe and indicative of people putting less than minimal effort into making a show for girls.
 
-EQG was a waste of the talent that went into making it and the very concept itself was riddled with the flaws of any TV to movie spinoff.

They should totally do a limited re release of Transformers The Movie in theatres.

It’s not about bashing. People like what they do, and hating on G1 is dumb. But there weren’t nearly as many fans as there are now. Simple facts, for whatever reasons.

Are there any plans for the anniversary? I know TMNT is doing a crossover of the Nick show meeting the fred wolf show (Which I hope there is more to it than that though)
