@Starswirl That seems like it’d only mesh with Crowley’s idea better! He encourages the bullying because it reminds him of how he fell for Suri, before she turned her lashing tongue on him and taking off to Manehattan. He digs the bitchy ones. Yeah, but DT’s father did make her participate in the next Zap Apple harvest, which included the humiliating things. That might have been a step taken too far if Cheerilee told him about her performance with Granny Smith. If that’s the case, it’s reasonable for her to be afraid.

Don’t be fooled; some parents I knew were perfectly fine with the bullying their kids dished out, even encouraging them. It was only when the kids got in trouble that they finally stepped in, and then reacted with harsh punishments in order to look good.

Someone who believes “every pony for herself” doesn’t seem likely to care that her daughter’s being a bully, yet it was shown at the end of “One Bad Seed” that Diamond Tiara didn’t want her behavior reported to her mother.
 
Of course, one could always argue that, with her mother being out of town, it would be her father that received that report, and he would be upset…
