I see what you mean. Though I still enjoy how the children aren’t just rehashing their parents’ color schemes, I see how the lack of a shared trait can harm the connection.
This makes me think on Twilight and Rainbow’s parents and the physical traits shared between them. Both inherited a parent’s mane style, so while they’re not perfect copies there is a link.
Maybe if the filly had her mother’s eyes.
I’m not saying the kids have to be clones of their parents, but ponies in the apple family do seem to tend to have some similarities in looks/color patterns. It just seems strange that their color palates don’t even harmonize with their parents.
How so?
Not for ponies, necessarily.
I mean, look at the Cake family. Or Pinkie Pie. Or Twilight.
Rarity is arguable, the other Pie sisters ditto, and Rainbow Dad there’s an obvious resemblance, but of the 6 ponies where we’ve seen both parents and had confirmed they are the parents, 3 of them don’t really have that resemblance.
Still, they look adopted.
I’m not saying that foals need to have parent’s colors, but offspring is usually bear some resemblance to father and mother
