That’s the main problem right there. I don’t know if McCarthy even sees the episodes before they air; she’s the Story Editor, not the Animation Director, but all the tizzy-havers are freakin’ out like she put on a little opera cape and top hat and cackled while she animated that scene herself.

Derpy has always been limited to background or bit parts, so yes, having her in another bit part counts as having her back.
 
Dreamy Cutebottom was a supporting character in a movie, and reasonably close to being part of the ensemble cast; further, he was unpopular due to being a rather cliched character who, for marketing purposes, was promoted to kinda-sorta-love-interest of a main character. Having him in a cameo BGP appearance doesn’t come anywhere close to repeating the same problems his EqG role caused.

You really don’t think anyone will rage if Flash Sentry returns and is made into a good character? Because I’m seeing quite a bit of anger over just a 10-second background cameo that was obviously out of Meghan McCarthy’s hands.

 
And it is not the fact that he appeared that rustles them. It’s that people don’t get that an animator probably just slipped him in.

I just watched this part. flash says nothing, and does nothing. he was probably just a cameo with no real relevance, just a simple reference to the movie.

Really? People have latched on to characters for that little before. He appeared in the show, he’s a character; a background character, maybe, but still a character.

It has no speaking lines or important actions, therefore it’s not really a character, and therefore Meghan did not lied.

He wasn’t in the script. Someone else stuck him in there without her knowledge. In this scene, he’s essentially Crystal Guard Pony #2.
 
It would be interesting to learn how much control—if any—Meghan has over layout/animation.
