It’s a very rare case.
If a girl decide to cover her hair, it’s either because she was indocrtrinated to do so, or because her community would start to say she’s a whore if she doesn’t.
It’s almost never a case of free will.

I believe it’s mostly so he can take it to tumblr after and brag about what a shitty site this is.
But yeah, I love a lot of the stuff he uploads too, I’m guessing that’s the only reason the mods let him comeback, you will have to ask Smiling up there to be certain since he is the site owner.

Huh. I wonder why? Is it to prove a point about prejudice, express it, or just take advantage of it? In any case, since a lot of his uploads aren’t all that bad, I see no problem with subverting trollish goals and actually enjoying the art, especially since it’s not his.

No, Meph uploads and downvotes these, then often goes as anon to comment about downvoters being racist, or posts compilation images about poorly received images.

He uploads so he can create drama. There are also a good number of people that manage to downvote every single non-barbie humanization the minute it’s posted, which gives me a comical impression of otherwise calm and collected people literally tripping over themselves do downvote as fast as possible.

I know more about the community and its users than I care to.

The hijab is not necessarily forced; it can be a choice on behalf of the wearer. There are, in fact, women who want to wear hijabs, but their countries won’t allow them. Pony culture has nothing to do with that kind of thing, either.

As for those requesting a tag… How about “no”? You’ve already got perfectly filterable tags for it, and I see Meph’s posting this kind of thing not as “deliberately starting drama”, but as actually thinking it’s cute/beautiful/whatever. Besides, the implications of such a tag disgust me.

“Early days”, you said it.
And many muslim countries were more liberal, say, 50 years ago than they are nowadays.
It’s an odd evolution, isn’t it?
Some even say that the Quran doesn’t even force women to cover their hair.

Ponies deal with pony culture, nothing more, nothing less. It’s some kind of matriachal society with elements of monarchy, republic, feminism, atavistic religion and free market.
It’s a mish-mash of a lot of things, but whatever you may think, it has nothing to do with the kind of Islam that forces a little girl to wear a hijab.

What you said is absolutely correct. Islam was, upon its introduction to the Arab world, quite a step up for women. Because under the old shamanistic religion, Arab women had zero rights. In fact, neither Christianity nor Judaism are particularly progressive, at least not within the scripture itself; all the progress we’ve had in the West came despite religion.

That said, Islam is - like all other major religions - made up of factions who hold different views on many things. Unfortunately, the most powerful faction in the religion today is the Wahhabi sect of Sunni Islam, by far the most orthodox and repressive of the sects (this is what the Taliban and Saudi Arabia follow). It’s not the majority, but it sure feels like it.

Most of what we see of Islam in the West is Wahhabists being their usual nutty selves, so it is only natural that there would be a backlash to seeing Islam of any kind (never mind that Sweetie’s hejab here is a tudong, a type of covering normally seen in Malaysia).

But whatever. I wholeheartedly second the motion of attaching a special tag to whatever Meph uploads just like we do to Sid. How about “Meph is trying to rustle your jimmies”?

It’s less about all of that and more the Orientalist Victorian-era stereotypes that often come with putting a character in a hijab. It’s especially sad that Fluttershy is the most likely to be put in one.

And it has a whole bunch to do with atheist/Christian/Jewish/whatever culture, doesn’t it. After all, most women have always been perfectly respected, but not a single Muslim woman has ever had a single shred of independence, right?

Translated from Sarcasm: Surprising as it may seem, Islam is not a religion purely dedicated to repressing women, and other religions aren’t necessarily that great either. In fact, in its early days, Islam was downright progressive when it came to respecting women.

A pony world rules by females where females are strong, emancipated and independent.
Suuuure, this has a lot to do with the muslim culture…

Yes, it’s cute.
But also yes, it’s fucking wrong.
