It’s not an utopia, it’s a “sugar bowl”, the world that parents (Celestia…) organize for their children to let them grow safe. It’s soft, comfy, simple to live. It’s not that there can’t be big problems, but they never concern you: this world is meant to confront you with SMALL problems, in regards to your age.

For one, this is meant to be a world to draw in small children to enjoy. As such, while it is not perfect, it’s not going to have the harshness that our world has on the social level. (As built by Faust and continued by the team, the strive in the world comes from the bizarre creatures that live there and the odd villain or two. And the expanded media has given us the concept that there have been wars and battles fought, though against the supernatural than between pony tribes, post the founding Hearts and Hooves Day.)
 
There’s still socioeconomic tiers - Sweet and Elite established that, but unlike class warfare of today, it seems readily accepted (and this possibility through the idea of cutie marks) that some ponies will end up better off than others. And thus, someone like Hayseed, clearly less well to do compared to Fancy Pants, doesn’t care as long as he’s happy.
 
I doubt that we’ll have any direct dialog to address in any detail how the various levels of Equestian social tiers see each other to learn more, but near, but not, perfect.

Based on? This is My Little Pony, not The Wire. I don’t see how you can really say much about how Equestria’s “social equality” seeing as how Equestria isn’t that kind of show to dwell into that much.

It’s far from a utopia, but I think they have a better handle on social inequality. There may be some ponies, like this guy, that simply want to enjoy life and refuse to take a job, making him homeless.

Since when was Equestria supposed to be a utopia? Really, I ask what makes the “Equestria is a utopia” thing keep on popping even though back in Season 1 we’ve had ponies being xenophobic, etc.

I’m not sure why such a pony utopia would have a homelessness problem.
