Well you’ve done a good job. Because I dislike you personally. But I will still always upvote your art because I love it. Weather you want to or not, you ARE pleasing Derpibooru’s users.
 
But the fact you even care that massively about the opinions of people on this one site, is just sad. You really need to rethink what you’re trying to accomplish.

As in “not a pony” art is pony art that probably looks more like horse art. What Pika does though is actually pony art though still, only being different enough to seem “wrong” rather than as a different style.
 
Though personally I see his animations for the amazing things they are, so, I don’t understand that at all. I actually assumed he got all these downvotes for his attitude alone.

Personally, I like seeing experimental, off-the-wall pony art. The wackier and more sinister, the better.

No, that’s an oversimplification. It’s a combination of several factors, including the subject matter.
 
In fact, it could be argued that the more radically different someone’s style is from the show, the more likely it is that their work will be accepted on its own merits. It’s when people try to very slightly tweak or elaborate upon the underlying G4 model that things start to go awry.
 
Again, the proportions are everything. The size of the head, length of the body, length of the legs, etc. If the changes are significant, the general subconscious reaction will be something along the lines of “oh, that’s not a pony, so it doesn’t matter”, but if the changes are only very slight, you get this viscerally negative reaction.
 
Part of the reason for this is that G4 ponies follow the golden ratio very closely, so any art that only makes slight adjustments to their proportions is in direct defiance of that.

It’s because they’re still cutesy, as opposed to unnerving or intimidating.
 
Try searching the tag “uncanny valley”, and you’ll find works from even some of the best artists, like assasinmonkey.
 
I mean, for example, browse through imalou or exalius’s art and take a very close look at the scores for each one. Notice how the the number of upvotes tends to be inversely proportional to how disturbing a given image is, no matter the level of skill involved?

Explain how people seem to like the works of kittehkatbar, inuhoshi-to-darkpen, famosity, santagiera, llacky, dennybutt or antiander (to name a few) despite them focusing on a much more realistic and “lifelike” style than the show.

EVEN THOUGH I PRESENT THEM WITH BETTER ANIMATION.
 
And before you think im have a MASSIVE EGO, no, show style animation has WAY too many technical errors with it such as spacing errors, lack of weight in objects. a lot of 101-animation-you should-not-screw-up-errors in it.

The fandom tends to be somewhat intolerant of art that strays too far from the show’s model, no matter how good it is. Very often, attempts to make G4 ponies look grittier and more lifelike (say, by tweaking their proportions a bit, or by giving them a more defined jaw structure) tend to backfire spectacularly.
 
I’ve drawn a few pics now and then where the general reaction was something along the lines of “nooooo, ponies must be cute!”
