For those non-Brits out there: the V sign, when the palm is facing inwards, is considered vulgar in the U.K. One theory as to why is during the Hundred Years’ War between England and France, captured British bowmen had their index and middle fingers cut off so they wouldn’t be able use their weapons. In defiance, the British archers would show their fingers at the French as to say, “Eff you, I still have my fingers!”
