They did. But the execution of the plotlines were halfassed.
 
For instance. Most of Return of Tambelon featured the ponies being helpless to face Grogar, until a pony conveniently remembered how to defeat him.
 
In Escape from Midnight Castle, the Rainbow of Light is broken, yet it somehow kills Tirac anyway.
 
In the MLP Movie, the Flutterponies outright refused to help Megan and the ponies of Dream Valley, despite Megan helping one of their own, only to change their mind after another line of dialog, and it had nothing to do with the fact that Megan helped out a Flutterpony.
 
The synopsis of these episodes sound incredibly deep, but the actual episodes have piss poor execution.
 
Nevermind the fact that half of Tartarus is in Dream Valley terrorizing ponies for the hell of it, pun intended. It sounds good, but it falls so short. Such is the fate of 80s cartoons in general.

From what I hear, they had alot more threats in G1.

Twilight isn’t the focus of the show anymore, and honestly, I think that’s good. Previous seasons had her at the forefront, but now other characters are well built enough to share the spotlight.
 
The show was once about Twilight learning about friendship. And now it’s evolved. Shows change over time! It shows a willingness of the creators to move it in new directions rather than stick to the same-old same-old.
 
I don’t even get the “Mane 6 have become token” thing.
 
If people don’t like the show, that’s fine. I just think that a lot of these arguments read less as good reasons why they dislike the show, and more just internet whining.
 
I’m 1000% sure there are people who genuinely don’t like the direction the show has gone, but (to use this post as an example) when they start calling people who like the show “Shills” and “Hasdrones,” and use phrases like “heathen standing over his coffin in hell,” it paints their argument less as genuine opinion and more as Internet Drama.
 
So, yeah. I quite disagree with this post. I’ve really enjoyed the new direction of the show.

It’s true. All of it.
 
And it’s sad.
 
It’s slowly sinking into G1 territory. All the characters were bland, and the only thing it had going for it was the adventure, and even then, it was half-assed most of the time. The future of FiM is to go right back where the franchise started. G4 will become G1.

Actually, many characters became pretty bland, only having any depth in the episodes focused specifically on them and serving as a filler in episodes focused on someone else.

Actually, I’ve also felt that Twilight has just sort of… been warming the bench this season.
 
And it’s no wonder, as her character development is pretty much done until they actually go somewhere with the princess thing.
