Hey, I was digging for words too. I know it doesn’t fit, but I was trying to get a point across. I jut don’t like it when the comparison is made between a character who is shy as part of their personality, and when it’s kind of forced upon people by a religion/the people who abuse the rules of that religion.
“Subservient”?
…Really?
Thanks.
Begins digging.
Now then, why is muslim Fluttershy a thing in the first place? Well, take a look at her personality. She’s shy. Pretty much her defining trait. Kind of a doormat. Now, what I’m going to say is perhaps the second worst generalisation I’ve made this month, but in Islam, woman, y’know, aren’t exactly…
Jeez, how do I even put this…
Islam woman aren’t exactly offered as many freedoms as men by their religion. I mean, just go onto google news and type “Islam women” and I’m sure you’ll see a plethora of stories about how woman are degraded because of the way in which men abuse the Islam law. In many cases, they are treated as second rate, if that. They’re required to wear the hijab by their religion.
Now, the reason I don’t like the whole “Islamshy” thing is because it takes a character who is shy and subservient, and makes a link between a religion where, in numerable cases, woman are extremely badly treated, and are forced to be subservient.
…Have I dug myself to china yet? Or do I need a bigger shovel? Christ, I almost don’t want to hit the “Post Comment” button on this one.
@Trachyon
Here’s a shovel you can borrow, if you’d like to keep digging by trying to explain that.
