I’m rather confused as to what your objection is.  
The material of the lenses from this mountain is the best material available and/or they naturally form more perfectly than they have the ability to create on their own.  
He’s making a telescope for the newest local quasigoddess; of any noticeable consequence whatsoever is a qualification for concern, “more important” or not.

It’s Starry Eyed’s job to get more lenses! How’s he supposed to stay in business if he requires customers to fetch him supplies?

Please. Spike’s nearly indestructible. Celestia already sent a thousand mountain climbers, and they were all too fragile to make it back. Spike could dig himself out from a hundred landslides and avalanches.
 
But her contribution is still only paying for half of Spike’s medical bills.

Enh. The shape and configuration is more important than anything else, so making the lenses according to what the design needs would result in a superior product compared to using random lenses.
 
And Starry Eyed didn’t say that the mountain produces the best glass for making telescopes, but the best lenses.

Well you see I convinced an 12ish year old to climb a mountain alone instead offering of any of ten thousand skilled mountain climbs, flyers and teleporters to get you a lens for a telescope.

The bigger issue is that the telescope maker can’t just grind some lenses. Out of glass. What, they have to use naturally occuring lenses from Mount Way-the-Heck-Away?
 
What about all those ponies that we’ve seen with glasses? Where are they getting the lenses?

Blinding lights, strong winds, whatever. They’d have to land at some point, and the lenses could be inside a cave or something.
 
Relatively minor issue compared to not being able to make lenses.
