Exactly. And considering how important Rarity’s image is to her, if she can forgive Sunset after all that then she really deserves the Element of Generosity.
Oh yes, that. She was publicly humiliated in a similar fashion to Twilight, so I suppose that is pretty considerate of Rarity in particular.
Ah, I single out Rarity because from what I understand, she was the one who dared to stand against Sunset in the previous formal, and Sunset did something to her for it.
And I can understand not holding grudges against people who show obvious signs of repentance, like you say. However, if I was one of Sunset’s victims and know what kind of tricks she’d pull in order to get ahead, could you really blame me for being suspicious, even if she’d previously demonstrated her unwillingness to falsely shed tears?
Me, personally, I’d probably do my best to ignore her completely. I’d probably shrug off any attempts to reach out to me because I’d be far too wary to trust her. Fool me once and all that.
If the Mane Six stuck with her, then maybe, maybe I’d loosen up, but it’d still be one heck of a struggle.
Why single Rarity out? In this comic, AJ was right there too.
It’s strange, because I don’t know how to say this without seeming pretentious, but I’ve never been that good at holding grudges against people who show obvious signs of repentance. Sunset is much too proud to shed tears falsely, so it would be hard to imagine she was faking her reversal. If one can accept that her change was genuine (keeping in mind that it was only the beginning of a process, not the complete package) then I see no reason why one wouldn’t try to defend her, except for petty vindictiveness. I’m not saying all the things Sunset did weren’t terrible, because there’s no denying that. I’m simply saying that spite and counter-bullying are lame and do no one any good at all.
I’m going to have to disagree with you on the ‘they know she’s not as power hungry’ bit. Imagine if you were one of them, and suffered under her yoke for a minimum of a year. You’ve seen how she goes around demeaning people, throwing her weight around and getting her way by bullying people into submission. You might have even been a direct victim yourself.
Then after she gets thrashed by this weird girl who appeared out of nowhere, she claims she’s turned over a new leaf. I, for one, would not be willing to (or capable of) believing her. Not for a long, long while if ever.
I mean, I probably (probably) wouldn’t chuck stuff at her or anything, but I wouldn’t exactly be inclined to come to her defense. If Rarity is able to forgive her after whatever Sunset did to her, then Rarity is a saint.
The reason they weren’t as afraid is because they know she’s not as power hungry as she used to be. They’re basically pressing their advantage on her. That’s all well and good if you don’t mind folks behaving like animals, but civilized people should encourage reformation, not abuse it.
Sorry, but how it that not the point? Twilight was also a stranger to the human world, but she wasn’t a total bitch or try to brainwash the students.
Sunset had all that time, and all she did was rule through fear and made it clear she didn’t think much of any of them when she went all Sunset Satan.
Yes, ruling through fear is a valid strategy for a leader, but at some point that fear will become hate and then they won’t be as afraid anymore.
That’s not really the point.
@James Rye
On the other hand, Sunset did brainwash them and plan to use them to invade another world. That is not something most people can forgive easily, if at all.
Oh lawl.
Sweet, now we just need the others!
1st panel: “Isn’t she the one I saw this morning?”
5th panel: “Oh no.”
6th panel: “This school has a bullying problem too.” Arrow “She’s been bullied before for being a bookworm.”
The words in the 4th panel are SFX, nothing to them.
Too be fair, she had no idea how cruel human teens could be.
