Rainbow’s type is weather. We’ve seen her create breezes, tornados, break up storms, make rain. She’s more air than water. And I think you’re thinking of Hawlucha

Ah, that explains it! Rainbow’s a Flying type, so of course she wouldn’t have the same force with a Rock type move.

Actually, given her traits, maybe Rainbow can get a dual same-type-attack bonus, like that wrestler bird from the new Pokemon games I haven’t played.

And unfortunately, if they actually got into a battle, a majority of Rainbow’s skills, outside of perhaps making it rain, would prove ineffective.

Then again, if somepony brought about a rainstorm beforehand (beforehoof?), maybe Rainbow’s water attacks would prove more effective.
 
No, no, no, I won’t have a nervous breakdown over contemplating ponies using Pokemon logic!
 
But what if somepony created a sandstorm instead? At that point, Rainbow would be completely screwed as all Rock type attacks would be bolstered.

If it were a double battle, she might be able to bring in Twilight as an overpowered legendary to even the odds, but that would mean Maud would probably bring in Pinkie Pie too, who… might be a Normal type? A superpowered, nigh-omniscient Normal type…?
