it feels, at the very least, like it could be construed as a little politically incorrect, and I feel like it works for the story since Fancy Pants isn’t exactly meant to come off as squeaky clean here. (Is there a pony named Squeaky Clean? There should be.)

I don’t know if that racism. It’s certainly quite a jarring introduction and his tone and words does tend to give a sense of superiority as an individual but not as a race,more like an employer to a worker (which he is). He is simply commenting on spike being involved in a line of work that is not typical for his species(in the show dragons are fierce brutes) and his kind of completing his race while lamenting their loss. Of course when one is talking about the racial overtone of a mammal and a reptile turned into humanoid its kind of hard to connect the appropriateness of racial…ness…regardless one should t be offended by Fancy-pants speech.

Casual racism always makes a good first impression.
