Description

Now we’re going into the final six episodes. It’s time to do our penultimate tally of all the arc focused episodes. Now, let’s get some things out of the way.

  1. Yes, I am aware I didn’t mention the castle. That is because, unless the castle is shown in the show that it has relation to the chest, I am not counting it as such. If, however, there is a connection, I’ll include it in the final imaged tally and in an unofficial counting in this description.
  2. The Y/M sign relates to the shiny objects that the ponies get, which are implied to have some connection to the chest.

Tallying up, the ratio of plot:filler episodes is 7:12 (not counting the castle), 9:10 (counting the castle).

Hm… Come to think of it, including the castle might help make it more of a plot-based season.

The key episodes aren’t even connected to the arc plot because they don’t develop or change anything. They just show us, the audience, plot tokens. Nobody mentions anything remotely related to the overarching narrative, nothing further is learned, no progress is made that won’t be filled in during the season ender with a simple “the keys were inside us all along!” that could have been delivered without the key episodes anyway.

This plot is a two-part episode in four parts with no relevance or connection to the rest of the season. Exactly as I expected.

Alright. I’ll compile a brief ratio, see where we’re at.

Ratio for plot:filler - 11:8 (I’m only counting Season 4 episodes, though, but if I included Season 3, I’d also include the Princess Twilight arc episodes, which may make Season 3 and 4 a pretty nice arc) (Keep in mind, this is me going off the top of my head)

Hm… Now I’m starting to like where this is going.

Yeah, though it doesn’t really relate to the box in some way. I know what you’re talking about, though.

If it ties into the box in some way, I’ll include it in the count.

If it doesn’t, I’ll make another image counting them.

Well, in all liklihood to the point of it almost being no question, Saturday’s episode is AJ’s “Key” episode.

And unless episode 24 leads into it somehow (that being the only episode except for 25 and 26 to still be announced), that’ll be the last of it until the finale. At least from what’s been announced so far. Maybe “Trade Ya” might feature something, but I’m not betting on it.
