I vaguely recall reading something about that. As in ‘apple’ actually referred to some sort of offering or something. But I’m no expert.

I’m most familiar with the Apple of Discord, though I thought the golden apples also had some sort of effect. But that’s me confusing them with their Norse counterparts.
