Because people are to lazy to attempt to give any nuance to cutie marks. It always has to be your career, it can’t ever be symbolic, and the character has to be completely based on whatever it is. Nevermind that Rarity only uses gems some of the time, or that Fluttershy doesn’t like butterflies more than any other animal.

‘Toyetic’ is a word created by marketing people. It means an object or device featured in a cartoon that can easily become a mass produced toy.
Which is a prime example of why I think some of the fanon can get a little ridiculous.
