Replying to myself: I recently learned that fluffy mothers in wolfram’s headcanon are absolutely terrible mothers. Now, if this is her only baby, that’s not so bad, but if she has other babies off-screen, they’re probably going to suffer because she cares more about her “bestest babbeh”.
Not that it excuses the owner, who threatens to kill the foal. It just means that she probably doesn’t deserve to have babies in the first place.
I guess so… Drat…
Too bad. The owner’s an abuser (just a psychological one, rather than a physical one). Even if the mother came up with a legitimate answer, the owner would have played some kind of logical loophole as an excuse to take the baby anyways.
That’s not the sequel I demanded.
