@Lord Pat III
I don’t remember all the details, but it has to do with how copyright law works. In short, it’s broken and doesn’t work like it was once intended to.
@patec
But where do they get the justification to step in like that. Why do they feel the need? I sort of get what they did with APM for PR reasons (still wrong though) but what was the point of going after JAN in the first place. I knwo they have a legal right, but morally it just feels wrong.
And patec’s statement as well.
It’s also worth noting there seems to be a disconnect between Hasbro’s legal and development team, hence Mike’s “whoops, we’re going to look into this” tweet after Jan took the hit. But I digress, Hasbro’s is far from perfect, but they’re not the all consuming company some of the fanatics like to paint them as either.
Finally some good news for once!!! Now we just need button’s adventures approved too and everything will be back to normal. Things like this are restoring a bit of my faith in humanity.
@patec
It’s like I said when I was discussing similarities and differences between bronies and Sonic fans…
While Sega and Sonic Team only recently started putting effort into making decent Sonic games, they don’t give HALF the amount of shits about the consumers as Hasbro does about bronies. Heck, we bronies should feel honored that we’re in a fanbase where the franchise actually acknowledges our existence!
Not to mention there’s plenty of pandering to the bronies via merch, and referneces in the comics and show!
The C&D against JanAnimation was a shame, but they’re showing the care enough to actually work with Jan here.
I’m not saying they’re the world’s greatest company or anything, but I’ll take a company that sees it’s completely out of target demographic fan base as a bunch of dollar signs that they should at least try to keep happy within reason over complete apathy or hate any day of the week.

Thats what people don’t get.
Hasbro already is pretty nice to us. They close their eyes and look away whenever they can.
But most people here only see the cases when they stepped in because certain limits were crossed.
If they wanted they could shut down a lot more artists and projects.

That’s the thing, they already are far nicer than they need to be. They could, and very well just might, allow a lot more of his work again.
But it’s unreasonable to expect that he’ll be given free reign to do anything he likes, any more than it was to expect that before the takedown. This shouldn’t magically give him immunity - just because one thing he did was okay by the legal dept. doesn’t mean it all is.

You people sound like battered spouses.

So be patient. Let them decide.
Couldn’t Hasbro be nice, though? :3
That’s…not how it works.
That’s the spirit!
