I could keep on playing devil’s advocate and point out animation errors with more glaring anatomy flaws than that, but instead I’ll just shrug and default on “really it doesn’t matter, people prefer the character as an amputee because it makes her different, interesting, and depending on the individual, more relateable.”

Actually, the larger version of the previous picture makes it look very convincingly like she’s just resting on a pillow, in which case all that angle shows is that she still has thighs. (like she does in this picture.)
As long as we get art of this background pony, I guess I’m willing to let the canonical accuracy slide. I might put up some art of my own with her, not as an amputee.

If you’re referring to “this screenshot”:www.derpiboo.ru/590167, it’s debatable; looks more like a sort of pillow to me. Check the bottom part of the image, legs don’t work that way.
