@Ichijoe
Then he shouldn’t be arguing against it, now should he? Ugh. The younger generation just takes games for granted. You and I, though, having played both old and new, we can judge them fairly.
@Ichijoe
Crap… So its possible that @invelios never even played with an original 8-bit System long enough to appreciate why the Game Boy means so much to us.
@Ichijoe
But to defend @invelios POV for a second… He probably isn’t wearing our vintage late 80’s rose-tinted Sunglasses. Like we are. Cause… Discounting my previous comment below… I do get you… I really do get you, being a ’70s & ’80s kid. But, were old-bucks on this site. And, well that look on Button mashes face (when hes playing Pong), says everything.
Just keep in mind that the Game Boy is now officially old too at 25…
@Lawful Girly
“Gimmicky”? How so, they are just new game mechanics. That word really has no good meaning nowadays anyways. And your line of thinking just means we will be content with the same games forever instead of improving them to make better ones. You can’t have a completely innovative title, you need frameworks to work off of. Many great games where made by taking mechanics from other games and refining them or altering them.
Anyways, I have to call this argument quits. I have to sleep so I can work on my game project for school all day tomorrow. We can just agree to disagree. The only reason I tried to bring it up is that Tetris Axis is only 10$ in the eShop, which isn’t much more than Tetris GB last I checked (since Nintendo really overprices their VC games…) so I though more people would like to know.
@invelios
Not impressed. Seems gimmicky.
And no, not really; thinking like that is what causes franchises to create those awful different-genre spinoffs that nobody likes and websites (coughGoogle Facebookcough) to constantly change everything just when you get used to it.
“improve on perfection” No such thing as perfection. Everything can be improved.
As far as new modes so :
Bombliss Plus mode : the tetriminos have blocks in them that explode when a line is cleared, matching 4 bombs in a square makes bigger blocks.
Fit : Involves “fitting” several tetriminos into 2D planes that move towards the screen before they hit the front of the screen.
Shadow Wide : You have to place the tetriminos in such as way that they make a sort of 2D pixel like picture.
Stage Racer : Involves racing a tetrimino through a stage where you will have to fit it though gaps fast before it gets stuck and pushed to the top. Sometimes requires you to spin through the gaps at the right time.
These are just a few of my personal favorite modes in the game. There are 9 of these more unique “party” modes in addition to the classic mode and a vs mode.
@invelios
I assumed you had heard the axiom (” arguing on the Internet is like.. “)
Anyway, if that’s not what you like, that makes it even more pointless, especially to continue trying to improve on perfection instead of building all new games. Unless they’re banking on, you guessed it, nostalgia to sell the new version. Why don’t you tell us about these new modes you keep harping on about?
@Lawful Girly
Ok, when did I ever say ANYTHING about graphics? I do like them better, but that isn’t the main reason I like it. And what is wrong with enjoying more modes? Its stupid for games to stay the exact same forever. You can build on existing games while adding new mechanics and twists to get more interesting games. Its not like most of the modes in Axis are complex, most are not. But they still manage to be a lot of fun.
BTW saying someone won the “Special Olympics” can easily be seen as a personal insult. If you really just wanted to end the argument you could have easily left it out. I probably wouldn’t have responded then.
@invelios
Nope, not insulting you in particular, but the entire concept of internet arguments.
If you want a reply: why overcomplicate a puzzle game? It’s possibly the simplest puzzle possible, and every time somebody gets the bright idea to add something “ new and hip” it just gets worse and more pointless, much like sports games which only change team rosters. “It’s got better graphics!” I hear you whine. It’s Tetris; how good do you need them to be?
@Lawful Girly
And because it’s a classic, that makes it better because…?
It doesn’t make it better. That’s just pointless nostalgia. Video games are not novels. They have way more ways they can be objectively better. I love classic games as much as the next gamer, hell I bought NES Remix 1 & 2 to play some of them, but that doesn’t mean they are automatically better. Sometimes they might be, but there have to be real reasons for it, not just nostalgia.
@invelios
You have no respect for the classics. That’s like saying “ Romeo and Juliet 20XX has robots and explosions and a soundtrack of Queen, so that makes it better than Shakespeare!”
@Lawful Girly
And what in the GB version is better? The only thing I can think of is maybe the music, and more ways to play means more to me than music.
@fixman88
Yeah, it is pretty awesome. About time Nintendo realized it had to appeal to the nostalgic audience. || Of course, emulation is even cheaper…||
@Lawful Girly
Or you can get the 3DS Tetris game. Tetris Axis I think? Its actually not that bad, I got it on a physical cart and it was pretty good, although I kinda wish I had it digitally, so I didn’t have to swap out a cart to play it.
@Lawful Girly THIS.
One of the reasons I got a 3DS XL was to get the classic games that could be downloaded (my most recent one being Super Mario Bros 3).

That’s not really an argument you could win today though… ‘Cause who doesn’t ♥ Robots and, Explosions?
I know I do!

First of all :
“improve on perfection” No such thing as perfection. Everything can be improved.
As far as new modes so :

Hey look. An insult instead of an actual reply to my point. Why am I not surprised.
And because it’s a classic, that makes it better because…?

If that’s all you care about, sure.
You’re right. Axis has more modes. That makes it better.
Yeah, it is pretty awesome. About time Nintendo realized it had to appeal to the nostalgic audience. || Of course, emulation is even cheaper…||
@invelios
It’s not the same.
