Considering the history of the characters involved, it doesn’t read as “Out of nowhere” to me.
Actually… Not that swift, or at least not out of nowhere.
So, you’ve never, ever had rapidly shifting moods, or multiple reactions to something.
Surprisingly, this is more art incoherence and not an example of bad writing.
