That’s not an excuse to not have a weapon on you or be carrying something like a Mosin. The only one here who shouldn’t have his M16 on him is the sniper. For obvious reasons. And I’m not saying they’re in combat. I’m saying they’re drawing unwanted attention by keeping that helicopter so close to the ground for so long. Just because they’re coming in doesn’t mean that a helicopter isn’t a prime target for some NVA sitting in the bush. While they might not be in combat, it doesn’t mean that they aren’t out on patrol. And seeing as patrols lasted for several days, they need supplies like food, water, ammo, etc. And I can guess pretty well that they aren’t coming into an FOB from a patrol or combat by they’re pristine uniforms. Unless they just arrived in country. In which case the girl with the Mosin should have her issued rifle. And even if they’re coming in from a battlefield, they should have collected they’re weapons and brought them back to be cleaned.  
I just think this way because I read a lot of books from people who did stuff like this. I do like the picture. It’s just the pedantic side of me sees these things and goes ballistic.

Lighten up. M16s (especially 1st bloc M16A0s) are notorious for being rather… fitful and fragile in combat. They could be back from combat, at a FOB of some kind where there simply isn’t room for an LZ inside the wire. I personally think the picture is very well done.

I like this picture… however.  
What are you doing with a Mosin? What happened to your sevice rifle? Jam? Did you not clean it? Speaking of. LYRA! WHERE THE FUCK IS YOUR WEAPON? Why are Twilight and Lyra so bright? Darken up ladies. Did your sergeants not teach you how to stay alive in the bush? Loose the white armband Ms. Negant. Why hasn’t that pilot already taken off? You wannna get shot down? How come you have so few supplies? No food? Ammo? Hell, not even any water? In the jungle? And why do none of you have on any sort of camouflage? A team this small is here for recon so you’d better conceal yourselves if you want to get out of here alive. Finally, why haven’t ya’ll set up a perimeter? Are you heading towards the forest? Then stick together! Head in the same direction. Don’t split up.
