While I understand his concern, and reasons, it’s a bit odd alot of these cartoonists don’t want free advertising for their cartoons, or people sharing them with each other online. (I mean I can understand not wanting ALL of his comics archived online, but what if it’s only a few?)
“The Far Side” has been out of newspaper print for nearly 20 years now, and if it wasn’t for the book reprints, and callenders, or fans of it from the ‘90s/‘80s, it would’ve fallen into obscurity now. But in a way having a few of them online actually helps promote them, and gets people interested in the series. Especially, sense younger teenage folk, and such probably never heard of the “Far Side,” and probably wouldn’t buy the book collections, or anything unless they saw what the series was like, or unless somebody online goes, “Hey you got’ta check out this comic! It’s hilarious!”

So in some ways sharing the comic online isn’t all bad. (Don’t know why Gary Larson doesn’t even have a few on his official website. Imagine somebody goes to that site, and has no idea what the “Far Side” is. You think they’re going to buy the book without seeing a few examples of it?)
Every Garfield comic ever made is archived on the official Garfield website, and that doesn’t seem to of hurt it’s book sales, and such.

I mean I’m not supporting online-piracy, or anything, but a li’l “advertising” doesn’t hurt a comic/cartoon. Just look how insanely popular MLP:FiM got from being posted on Youtube, and such. It never would’ve gotten so huge, if that didn’t happen.

I think the stuff here would be considered fair-use as its a parody of both his [Larson’s], and Studio DHX / Hasbro’s properties. Not just a 1:1 for the like implied in that notice.

And, I’m sure Parody is covered under the Copyright laws as fair-use. So I fail to see a problem here.

Nice, the Far Side has been one of my favorite comic strips. :D (Have several of the books.) It even influenced my drawing, and humor style to.

I’m not entirely sure, but I heard Gary Larson (the creator of the series) didn’t want, or like people posting his comics online.
