FiM writing credits for M. A. Larson: Swarm of the Century, Sonic Rainboom, The Cutie Mark Chronicles, The Return of Harmony Part 1, The Return of Harmony Part 2, Luna Eclipsed, Secret of My Excess, The Super Speedy Cider Squeezy 6000, It’s About Time, Ponyville Confidential, Magic Duel, Magical Mystery Cure

So, out of that list, there’s only 3 or 4 you completely like? What percentage of episodes of the show in general do you completely like?

I’m mixed myself. I like Luna Eclipsed, my fav episode, and Magic Duel isn’t bad.

MMC I loathe with a passion. With how Equestria Games was handled in S4, I think the episode before MMC could have been done away with to give it a 2 part season finale.

Though I do respect Larson for trying to do a musical episode, it fell flat. You take the music out and you have a 1/2 ass story that’s just about product placements with Twilight’s Ascension and her chariot.

Hopefully the break during S4 - coupled with 26 episodes for S5 - will give Larson a chance for redemption.

Too be honest, I respect that many people have different takes and opinions over which writer wrote which episodes and how good or bad they did with them.
But I just enjoy having staff that are cool with us fans.
They could just totally ignore us, but instead they acknowledge and interact with us on a regular basis, and I enjoy it.

Yes, well, I can think of very few episodes he’s responsible for that I’ve completely liked, so I for one am not thrilled.

@cheezedoodle
If you meant “worried for the characters” as in “worried that their portrayal is lame”, I’m right there with you.

At the time, my point was that I was too tired to formulate a coherent response, so I decided to post a snarky remark instead. Judging from the metaphors you’re using, we’re looking at this in different ways, so let me try one more time:

It seems to me that you’re saying “I find part of the fandom obnoxious, but it doesn’t affect my enjoyment of the fandom”, which is a logical contradiction. If what you mean is “it doesn’t affect my enjoyment of the rest of the fandom”, then yeah, I can see that. If one forum you’ve been active on devolved into a hotbed of AliTwi and FlashLight worship, that wouldn’t affect your enjoyment of other MLP fora – though I find it hard to believe that you’d still enjoy that one changed forum as much as before.

Anyway, getting back to the original question, it seems that you would view it as your fault that you don’t like the abrasive and rude behavior of others, in which case I think we’re going to have to agree to disagree.

That they are being obnoxious? It’s not really rocket science here, my boy. I find tort bullies annoying, it doesn’t mean I don’t like the fact tort laws exists.

@Background Pony #047E
Cool? Naw, I find them to be the scum of the earth and wish nothing less than their children turning into fireballs which then explode into smaller children than in turn explode into jello. They just don’t impact my enjoyment of fandom X or Y, because that would be silly.
Background Pony #9169
@Background Pony #047E
Pretty much. Who’s fault else could it possibly be? Is it the fault of the crazy evangelical guy who has a sign on the side of road that you spass out like an idiot and get arrested for your troubles? He might be annoying and crazy, but if you spass out and get yourself arrested the only person at fault is you.

So if my enjoyment of the fandom is lessened because of a group of people griping and complaining constantly and representing their opinions as indisputable facts, that’s my fault?
Background Pony #9169
@cheezedoodle
Hey, I’m not the one whose enjoyment is being messed with because a group of people (most of which did, indeed, leave) said what I liked was bad.

@Dashu
Personally, I don’t have no need to leave the fandom because I never felt the need to say “I belong to X fandom!”. I just stop watching the show, buying the comics, buying merchandise, and just enjoy the fanart in all its shapes and periodically get my kicks at laughing at people.

@cheezedoodle
If other people are messing with your enjoyment, then it’s very likely you only think you are enjoying yourself due to sunk cost fallacy while in reality you do not like what you see.

God knows I enjoy stuff which have the worse people possible as a constant part of its fandom (for example, I’m a big fan of Invader Zim), so if other people were to define my enjoyment I would have already started a hatedom and burned lake Eire. Yes, I would hate them so much I would burn a lake to show it.

So the obvious solution is to continue to hang around with the people who do like it and whine and complain and AW, thereby lowering their enjoyment?

I suspect that a lot of these people want to leave the fandom, but can’t. As it happens, it’s actually pretty hard to abandon something you used to like very much. No matter how much you are displeased with the fandom and the work in question, it probably still has the things that made you love it in the first place, which makes leaving rather tricky.

Announcing that you are leaving shows that you still care. How much varies from person to person, but at least you are at a stage where leaving is tricky. Most likely, you still want to like it, but the things you dislike make it hard and possibly “wrong”. It’s not easy to be torn like that.

And yes, I speak from experience (it was a website, not a fandom, but same difference).

Also, having been in various fandoms for two decades, it’s common knowledge among older fans that anyone loudly declaring they are “leaving the fandom” probably aren’t, or they’ll be back shortly.

“Leaving a fandom” implies you have done just that, and have no involvement of any part of said fandom at all, not just stopping watching of the show or what-have-you. It’s also common that while some people vehemently deny they watch the show at all, they still do. Regularly. Because they’re still present to announce such.

…Ooops.

So yeah. No one takes anyone saying they are “leaving the fandom” seriously, at all. Those that actually do are already gone.

It looks like you’re only taking a part of what I said. You kinda need all three, there. If it’s legit, it’s pretty sad. If it’s trolling, it’s still pretty sad.

It’s more like they’re saying, “I’m butthurt that everyone isn’t as butthurt as I am, so I’m going to insult them!” I’m mocking their apparently petty passive-aggressive meta-butthurt. If that’s not the angle they’re going for, they’ll need to work on a different approach.
