We have no particular reason to assume the Equestrian Zebras are not a subspecies of E. sapiens.
Earthling taxonomy means little in this context.
when following genus, species name is supposed to be lowercase, so Equus sapiens and Equus ferus.
it really doesn’t work though, b/c zebras can talk too, so Equus ferus -> Equus sapiens but Equus quagga -> Equus ?
taxonomy assumes hereditary hierarchies, and ponies have as many common ancestors with insects as they do with earth horses. even phenotypically, bright coloring, six limbs, occasionally a carapace, segmented eyes…
