For some reason I really liked the fact it resembled the ripple laser until it combined.

They brought Tirek back, already gave us the physical manifestations of the Sun, the Moon, Chaos, and Love. I don’t see how introducing the Smooze as some sort of great, destructive force from another realm would be all that difficult or even out of place.
 
Really, most of the original backstory could be used. Three magic-users from another realm created the Smooze to cover the entire globe and eliminate all goodness and decency.
 
Pretty cool concept, even if the rest of the film bogged it down.
 
All I think the guys at Hasbro would need to do is amp up the Smooze’s threat-level. Why not go as far as Digimon Tamers was willing to go with their Big Bad, the D-Reaper? Capture one of the ponies after they’ve suffered some kind of loss that’s left them in a fragile and vulnerable mental state, manipulate that fragility to your own benefit, then take the captured pony’s darker emotions and feed on them as a fuel source to continue expanding and covering more and more area. Bonus points if you Silent Hill the shit out of it, with figments from the captured pony’s damaged mind beginning to pop up in reality due to the Smooze’s growing influence. Even more bonus points if all of this trauma leads to a climactic battle at the center of the pony’s mind, where they have to face both their demons and their own damaged psyche in order to stop the Smooze from expanding.
 
The obvious conclusion for an episode of a little girls’ show: The captured pony experiences a mental “second wind” of sorts and through a combination of the support of their friends and their own heroic willpower, manage to snap out of their depression, free themselves from the Smooze, and kick some serious flank once they’ve reunited with the rest of the protagonists.
 
The ballsy conclusion for an episode of a little girls’ show: The captured pony sinks too far into their depression to even desire escape from their captivity. Rather, they simply wish for everything to end, themselves included. Using the last of their strength, the pony resists the Smooze’s control long enough to weaken it, and smiles peacefully as the rest of the protagonists launch their final assault on it.
 
Or maybe I’m getting too into this. Whatever.
