I’ve seen “Avalon” used as the name for the planet on which Equestria is on, which is the name of the mythical island on which Excalibur was forged. Coincidentally, “Avalon” means “island of apples.”

…I’ve actually always personally/headcanon-ly refered to their planet as a mix of Equus and Terra: Equisterra  
The name has resemblance to “Equestria” in any case.

That’s just the Latin name for equines, like Earth is called Terra.
 
I personally don’t have a head canon for this, but it would be something along the lines of amity or concord…
