For me, the fact that Twilight Sparkle even says ‘I can do this!’.
It was too similar to ‘I wish, I wish!’.
The interesting part is there’s a well on the right side of screen in both shots.
I was hoping to do Firefly / Rainbow Dash comparison screencaps eventually,
so I might use or include this later. Nice find!
It wouldn’t surprise me if Faust put callbacks in the first season too.

Well in the background both times, talking to Megan both times. Whoops, did I just reveal Apple Bloom is Megan? Just look at the oversized bow.
Hey, I’m not arguing against it, I’m just saying that an official confirmation would be nice, either way.
The connection is a little on the tenuous side, is all. It certainly appears likely that it was a reference, but there’s also room for it to have been a mere coincidence. I see no problem with people desiring to get an authoritative word on it.
Why even question it?
Tirek is a old vilain from G1. They knew that when they were writing/animating the finale. They probably watched the old tirek episode to get a feeling for him.
I’m pretty sure they knew what they were doing when they did this scene. And I’m more than ok with that.
Maybe, but I’m sure Meghan will confirm this at the next MLP panel, or if someone asks her on Twitter.
