I have watched the series, friend, and it is what I’ve observed happen to the small boy that leads me to get into day-long debates with Anons that go nowhere and don’t change anyone’s mind on a image forum about a show for little girls.
I’d suggest you re-watch the series with that question in mind, except I suspect you’d look at, e.g., “Secret of My Excess” as Twilight’s attempts to keep a valuable employee.
Pretty much. In all honesty, which of the two—friend or employee—has she treated him as throughout the series?
So “friend” now means “employee”?
@Background Pony #7109
Well, yeah… in both of those instances, Twilight simply states something along the lines “You’re my best employee, and you’d be very hard to replace.” Twilight fails to mention either time that Spike is anything more to her than an a staff member. Spike gets lean way that an adult would not be given specifically because he’s a kid, one who is trying desperately to preserve what he perceived as a threat to his only real relationship. The hugs were nice, though.
And it wasn’t just a joke that Spike was pulling in OWtEW; he was trying to frame Owlowiscious so that Twilight would get rid of him.

“Owl’s Well that Ends Well”:
Agreed, and the worst part is how simply she could calm that fear. But, no, Twilight saying “I love you” has been reserved for the other ponies at the end of season three, and for Flash Sentry all too soon. Poor Spike.
And his fears were really TOO close to coming true.
Yeah, but he got bashed more than just in OWTEW. Remember Spike At Your Service? Or perhaps you recognize that one scene in It Ain’t Easy Being Breezies?
Well, Season 1 Twilight Sparkle wasn’t exactly the most sensitive of ponies. One of the reasons I liked OWTEW was that Twilight was being just as petty as Spike was.
Uh, I mean she scolds HIM. darn fast typing. LOL
I mean, think back to the actual scene in Owl’s Well that Ends Well. Spike was just jealous that Owlowiscious would replace him as #1 assistant. So jealous that he pulls off this joke that involves a toy mouse and some ketchup. Did Twilight like it? No. She scolds her for taking the blame on the owl.
Oh?
