For some reason Granny Smith turns into a complete fucking moron whenever the Flim Flam Brothers are involved. She bet the entire farm on their ability to make cider faster than a machine, spent a massive amount of the family’s money on a worthless tonic, and nearly killed herself trying to highdive into a goddamn kiddie pool because of her belief in said tonic, which was sold by ponies that she already knew were no good. That goes beyond senile. She’s definitely a few apples short of a bushel, as AJ would probably say if she weren’t her granddaughter.

Honestly, they really weren’t being shady. They bought the bass fair and square, and Granny IS AJ’s legal guardian (so the “she didn’t have a right to sell it!” argument is moot).
 
They had no legal obligation to refund the bass to AJ. douchey? yes. legal? perfectly.
 
 
Its not their fault Granny is senile. (And while that defense WOULD get AJ her Bass back, it would also land her, applebloom and big mac in foster care since their legal guardian would be ruled not competent to raise children).
