>>he did not even think to use one of his million and one time-and-space-altering powers to evacuate the citizens

So he’s supposed to have Silver Age Superman powers right off the bat? Yeah…

>>whether or not he helped rebuild the city does not erase the fact that half the damage done to the city was his fault

Stictly speaking, most of the damage was done by Zod’s ship helping the world engine. If you mean the fight proper, yeah it does make him culpable. That’s why most times comic Superman helps clean up his mess, when the Science Police aren’t around (in some continuities).

>>he could literally have snapped Zod’s neck at any time

So because he didn’t set out in wanting to kill Zod straight off the bat, he’s guilty of all of Zod’s antics. Hi, Lex!

>>And what’s this bullshit about not having anywhere to put him? You remember that Superman has this thing called ’The Fortress of Solitude’, which houses a way of sending criminals to the Phantom Zone, otherwise known as that prison that Zod had to wait out his sentence in because escape is impossible without outside intervention, right?

And here’s where I think you didn’t actually watch the movie. In this movie/continuity, Superman doesn’t have a Fortress of Solitude, let alone the Phantom Zone projector. Zod & his crew escaped the Zone when Krypton’s explosion damaged the P.Z. Generator Satillite and freed them. The only way to stop the evil Kryptonians was to use the Phantom Drive in Superman’s baby ship and jury-rig it to open a hole into the Zone, in a one-time deal since it would get sucked in to; Zod being left out of that was not in the plan. So yeah, there was no place to put the guy who has all of Superman’s powers, in a world without Kryptonite or, for now, cutting edge S.T.A.R. Labs, or what have you.

Superman waited until the very last moment possible to just snap a guy’s neck. He did not attempt to contain collateral damage, he did not even think to use one of his million and one time-and-space-altering powers to evacuate the citizens, and whether or not he helped rebuild the city does not erase the fact that half the damage done to the city was his fault, possibly all of it since he could literally have snapped Zod’s neck at any time. And what’s this bullshit about not having anywhere to put him? You remember that Superman has this thing called ‘The Fortress of Solitude’, which houses a way of sending criminals to the Phantom Zone, otherwise known as that prison that Zod had to wait out his sentence in because escape is impossible without outside intervention, right?

Oh, look at this. More Man of Steel bashing. ‘Less see…

There was no realistic place to keep Zod locked up, there was no indication that Metropolis wasn’t helped rebuilt during the time cut, this was Superman’s first time fighting anyone so he didn’t have experience or practice, comic Superman can cause damage that can be nearly as large as the events in the movie (such as the original Superman vs Doomsday fight where large chunks of the city was torn up in the brawl), the “large number of deaths Superman caused” was never shown and merely conjecture and not anywhere more stupid or “implausible” than the Avengers evacuating civilians while battling the Chitauri, etc.

Apparently, it’s doing well enough for Warner Bros. and Legendary to greenlight a sequel. Also, one of the main reason Pacific Rim failed domestically is because of Grown Ups 2…

Typing that out made me die a little inside.

But is godzilla 2014 doing well at the box office?, pacific rim didn’t made enough money in both japan and usa and there wont be a sequel or any mecha movie from legendary.

In Elseworlds, maybe… but then DC’s been putting out a lot of those lately.

Oh, and if you’re talking about John Stewart, he was framed for that.
If Hal Jordan, he was kinda possessed by the embodiment of Fear at the time.

@HamGravy
Doesn’t change the fact that he causes more damage on his own than anyone else in the DC universe. This including that one Green Lantern that once blew up a planet.

@SemiJuggao
It does need more Godzilla, but I hope they show less restraint and more destruction in the sequel.

The buildup was worth it though, better than 98 Zilla by miles.

Boo hoo hoo! Godzilla wasn’t in the movie enough! I hate the way they teased us with the cutaways from the action! The humans were dull!

Perhaps the movie could have done with a little more focus on the kaiju battles, but as it is, I thought it was great!

@SemiJuggao
The only Toho kaiju/daikaiju that isn’t Godzilla that absolutely has to be in this new franchise is King Ghidorah. I don’t care if they use every other monster in the Toho lot, if they don’t use King Ghidorah as the main antagonist in a movie with Toho’s permission to use any of their beasties, then, IMO, they f*cked up.

@SemiJuggao
“destruction porn!”, That left me with one hell of a mental image. Gareth Edwards said that he’d like to do a Destroy All Monsters style sequel for Godzilla. If that’s what we’re getting, then I’m certain there will be destruction up the wazoo.

You mean Batman vs. Superman? AKA Solid proof that Warner and DC saw the many mixed reviews for MoS and decided to shoehorn Batman into the sequel, in order to attract a larger crowd?

Regarding Godzilla, I was rooting more for Big G than I was for Supes, during MoS, last year! Speaking of which, Godzilla would have been PERFECT material for an epic display of destruction porn! However, the mass destruction actually took a backseat to human drama, compelling characters, and one hell of a payoff in the final act!

@rafasilva
He should have been the hero, he causes less destruction.

Heck, even Godzilla didn’t cause so much damage in his own movies.
