I’ve heard this complaint before, and it’s the least of the animations flaws. In fact, it actually makes sense. The embodiment of the night would be expected to be better at this whole Darkness thing than some random Epic Level Wizard.

I don’t know, personally I can think of worse fan works that bastardize events from the show.
 
This at least, seems to have a lot of love and respect for the source material woven into an interesting setting.
