You have a point. But there’s also Twilight attacking Spike–on purpose–with magic when he tried to help her in the season 3 opener, and then I feel depress again.

To be fair, this season was rather Twilight-lite. Twilight Time and Testing, Testing were really the only two Twilight-centric episodes that were slices of life, and even then there was something else taking the spotlight. There was very little Twilight-Spike time to be had here.
 
Compare this to S1 and S2 where Twilight was really the more central character and as such we got plenty of slice-of-life scenes with her including ones like these.

People seemed so relieved that Twilight didn’t change when she became a princess… except that she did. She stopped carrying Spike like she used to, she stopped giving him hugs, and generally she seems more distant from him. I can’t help but think the show did that on purpose so that next season Twilight can say things like “I feel a little alone,” and then—whammo—Flash Sentry.
 
I wish the show would go back to having her be nice to him, to scenes like this. Having Twilight actually acting like a guardian to him added a lot to her personality. Yeah, she can also be pretty awful to him at times, but the way that she treats Spike revealed a lot to us about who Twilight is. It is Twilight who diminished without the closeness of this relationship being present in the series, not just Spike.

I remember her giving him snuggles to wake up during winter wrap up :3 Yeah…we need more moments like this again. Well at least he got his own mini throne next to Twilight’s now.
