Yeah so I watched End of Evangelion this spring for the first time in like forever ie since 2003.
 
I think I sort of cryptomnesia’d a bit on this.

Nice to hear from the artist of this picture! It’s striking and mysterious and well executed. I remember that there had been some speculation as to the story behind this image on Ponibooru, so I was trying to sum up what I remembered from the old thread. Thank you for the great picture and insight into the backstory!

I drew this thing. It’s partially based off of the song We’ve Got a Lot to Be Glad for by Rock Plaza Central.
 
It’s also partially based off a dream I had about a malformed afterlife filled with tall architecture and red sand.
 
Not gonna explain the story behind it but I will say that Gilda is definitely not trying to ditch Scoots !!

What we seem to have here… is Dash, Gilda and Scootaloo, stuck in some sort of limbo-world, with Twilight Sparkle holding the portal back to Equestria open far in the distance. The portal can’t be held open indeffinitely, but since Scoots can’t fly the trio is forced to trek across the nothingness.
 
Gilda wishes she could just ditch the kid, that she and Dash could just fly away and escape, but if she even suggested it, the loyal pegasus would hate her forever.
