Would Satoshi Kon be considered scary? Anything of his I’ve seen is mostly just surreal. Like, literally pertaining to dream logic.
Personally, my defenses have a lot to do with my dislike of the propagation of some caricature-like stereotypes. Many fans seem to have a rather shallow idea about certain characters and personalities, and I see nothing wrong with arguing the point when I happen to notice it.
And for the record, I’ve defended many characters on such grounds, Not just Fluttershy.
Take Applejack, for example. There is an interesting little parallel between her and Flash Sentry, of all ponies. They both share very positive traits, such as a good nature and a helpful attitude. But these things in great abundance lead some to label them as “boring”. I dissent from that opinion, because I think virtue is anything but dull.
The point I’m getting at here is that I’m not interested in debating people who simply say “I don’t like X”. It’s when they throw on stuff that seems weak or absurd to me that I become more exercised.
You misunderstand. I’m not attacking the character or saying people should be haters. I’m saying she has more apologists than attackers, and so jumping to her defense is pointless since that dead horse has likely already been beaten. Both are usually insufferable, since they both often cause massive shitstorms in the comments. Personally I find Fluttershy fans who take offense at virtually nothing and construe it as their best pony being persecuted in some way incredibly irritating, and on the same token cannot fathom how some people hate her so much, since all things told she’s one of the better characters. But I run into the overly sensitive fans more, so usually it behooves me to say nothing. Usually.
In strictly logical terms, your reasoning isn’t really fair.
Startled by it. As a gag. At a time when she was thinking about dragons. She is not actually afraid of her own shadow.
If I had a dollar for every time I’ve explained that…

Strictly speaking, it wasn’t very considerate, but they’ve done worse. And it allows for an amusing reversal. Also, some people think this is human world Twilight.

What is with some getting violent over such minor things?
Like that one who drew Applejack getting beaten-up, just for lightly tapping Spike on the back of the head for being rude in the Season 4 finale.
You. Away from the PC. NOW.
Well, to be fair she did used to get literally scared of her own shadow. >>327839
aww she’s adorable when she’s flopping around like that
I think they were trying to get her over her fear, and insisting it would be “fun,” and not scary. I don’t think they would purposely try to scare Flutters. (Which is to easy.)
@sargesprinkles
I like that movie to actually.

@mrdoctorderpy
Love those animated GIFs.
That makes the joke funny; total blowback.
@Joshua
…
Because one isn’t enough…
Twi and AJ were making Fluttershy go into the creepy building in an attempt to scare her. In the end were scared themselves, and Fluttershy was indifferent to the whole thing. Meaning their plan backfired XD
That’s what tends to happen when a campy plays up the camp with no fucks.
i know
i just wanted to say that
No one said it wasn’t.
