S1 Luna was kind and happy in her only cameo. She was a lot like Fluttershy expect she’s not as shy as her.
S1 Luna was once intended to show up in a couple more eps to show her slow transformation back to her current modern Princess Luna form. But for some reason Hasbro choose to rush the transformation and make Modern Luna show up the second time we see Luna again.
Hasbro also hinted that the reason why s1 Luna looked the way she did was because Luna was drained of almost all of her magic powers when she turned back to herself again after being defeated as Nightmare Moon.
However fans pointed out that the same thing should’ve happened to Luna again when Tierk drained her and her sister Celestia both of all of their magic powers.
Oh, well. Nobody said that the writers were perfect…
Lucky, for s1 Luna fans the ep with s1 Luna in it turned out to be one of the best eps in the fim series so everyone wins.
“Personality”
I do not think it means what you think it means
S1 Luna really had no personality aside from being remorseful.
It would have given Luna more & better characterization, in any case. Post-S1 Luna really has no personality aside from the gimmicks they gave her.
I think that would have made Season One even more awesome than it was. Oh well.
Apparently, someone already uploaded the pic I’m referring to…
So yeah, there’s the proof that Luna’s character was originally intended to go a completely different (and arguably much better) direction.
Unfortunately, I don’t think you can.
I was hoping I could just upload it in the comments section here, but alright. Look for it under the “Luna” tag…
There’s an upload button. The upvotes button is pointing at it.
As I said before: S1 Luna didn’t have a character whatsoever.
Who is “CR?” I’d be interested to hear about a fellow S1 Luna fan, even if he might be an obnoxious ass. Anyway…
“Faust herself said that Luna Eclipsed was one of two Season 2 episodes that she had the most involvement in.”
That doesn’t make her characterization any better. If anything, it just means that Our Lord and Savior™ isn’t perfect.
“do some fact-checking before you complain about it so you don’t say something stupid.”
I have a pic where Lauren claims that “Luna was intended to have a lingering issue with Celestia. I wanted her to be a bigger part of Season One, but I worried about pushback for her “darkness” in the beginning. I meant for her to still need to learn how to feel good about herself in her sister’s shadow, a lesson I thought could be valuable for girls with older siblings.”
I don’t have a source on this, but I’d assume it’s legitimate. I’d post the pic that I got this quote from, but I don’t know how to upload images from my computer on DB (if it’s even possible).
If you have problems with the characterization or other things, that’s fine. But do some fact-checking before you complain about it so you don’t say something stupid.
I guess he’s referring to the fact that she was able to get over her wrongdoings and put it in the past, as the rest of the world has, instead of being a generic angst-ridden ball of tears that constantly whines about how everything is her fault.
stop making me cry man
Vicious cycle of hype.
Do you mean in a meta sense, or do you mean to the universe of the show?
In the former, I’d agree with you, but if it’s the latter, I’ll have to disagree.
Yeah, because her main character trait being speaking as loud as possible with an Old English-esque dialect is such good characterization…I can’t possibly see how anyone would object to that.
As someone who can’t stand Luna’s characterization from LE onwards (and her design, but I won’t go into that), I would have liked to see the writers build on her original character more. S1 Luna had a lot of potential and could have undergone a lot of character development, but they completely overhauled her instead. As far as I know, they did this because S1 Luna was “too dark,” but that’s still no excuse for the way things turned out. There’s no real substance to post-S1 Luna’s character; aside form her powers and abilities, her personality is pretty bland when it comes down to it. She doesn’t have any traits besides her abilities. They could have done so much better at characterizing her - they had the perfect chance to - and they completely butchered it.
Anyway, I just needed to rant and express my opinion. I hope no one takes this as me trying to start drama; I realize nothing good would come of that.
For certain definitions of “funniest”, but yeah, that’s true. I still love the show, but I’ve given up on getting any more characterization for Celestia.
Yeah, but it wasn’t the cataclysmic bitchfest people were predicting.
also hugs Luna
Of course, some people STILL bitched about Luna’s characterization… (cough CR cough)
