That is a good and interesting point, it may well have been intentional!  
Its nice when the writers or animators try to ‘think four legs’ or take into consideration other alien aspects of pony society and physiology, that is what makes for good fantasy writing.

Also, really funny thought, here:
 
Humans are two-legged creatures. We tend to think of things in a two-legged way. We tend to think of ponies as creatures that walk on their arms and legs, rather than viewing all four limbs as legs. We just naturally think in terms of bipedals.
 
Twilight, however, is a quadroped. She naturally thinks in terms of creatures being four-legged. Notice when she pulls Discord over, she naturally pulls him over in a quadropedal stance; onto all fours.
