Well I’m sorry that’s just being arrogant. I mean if it was the same distance to get to some of the German cons I’d be going to them.
You can’t make a con just because you want a Scottish con. Especially when you’re dealing with an american property where they are not gonna bother with the distinction.
You want a Scottish event? Sure get a meetup or a themed get-together. But a Con requires more than just “we don’t like the english” as a reason to exist.
And looking over their FAQ it looks like they’re not even gonna bother getting any special guests outside of community members (which are nice but shouldn’t be your main event).
I honestly don’t see it doing well. Maybe if you’ve got someone who can’t afford a train ticket for a trip to manchester. but then those are also not gonna be the ones to spend huge amounts on the stalls or on special tickets. ie. the things that fund the show and help it to do well with your mareplay sponsor.
@Roboshi
That wasn’t what I was on about but that’s a good point. The point I was trying to make was, it’s set for after the Referendum here, by witch point Scotland could very an Independent country. So wouldn’t it make sense for Scotland to Have it’s own one if that dose happen, Yet again it has just much of a chance of going the other way but even if that dose happen, there a number of people that wouldn’t go to buck just because it’s “British”. your prob thinking whats that got do with anything, the reason is brought it up is because there is sad but true thing up here where some people in Scotland won’t have anything to do with something just because It’s says “British” and not “Scottish” even if it’s exacts same thing. it’s prob it’s mist guided Scottish Nationalism that this came about.
Guests are there to make some money, it’s expensive taking time out to do this and they need to make that back. Also just because they’re on different dates doesn’t mean they can attend both. It would mean either spending over a month in a foreign country or making 2 seperate trips over the atlantic ocean on an exhausting trip.
@Roboshi
Like I said, That what I would do if I was them, I prefer smaller events, they tend to be more fun in my opinion plus there one factor your forgetting. Look at the date.
Comic book and other scifi cons have a MUCH wider range to get guests from multiple franchises. MLP is one show with a couple of spinoff properties.
Also these guest appearances tend not to be treated as holiday opportunities. I very much doubt any VA’s will be reading their invites going “Oh boy I’ve always wanted to experience burns night”
@Roboshi
Will if it was me, New one in scotland just because it’s in A place that if I was Tara or Ashleigh, haven’t been before but that’s just me plus just because Buck is “big” doesn’t mean there is no room for an other more localized one further up north. the biggest con of any type in the u.k is mcm comiccon, people travel down all parts of each of u.k each year yet just this weekend past there was Glasgow comic con and it was very successful and had attacked Big names from the comic book industry even Know it was the first one and there already been a big Established Con earlier in the year.
@wselfwulf
But again, We’re not in america. It’s an exponentially more expensive venture for a special guest to make it to the EU and the UK than it is for travel around the US and canada.
Having more than one con in a country of our size is only gonna spread our guests thin and put off those coming to this new one.
After all, imagine you’re Tara Strong or Ashleigh Ball. Which con would you accept invitation to, the 3rd annual BUCK con with a new vanue that’s twice the sizer because the last one sold out, or a new untested con in scotland?
@Roboshi
I’ll rather go to this than Buck as it’s closer to where I live, so I could just pop over to Edinburgh on the train for the day, come back home and sleep in my own house and they pop back over for day two. there for removing the cost for a hotel for the weekend meaning I would have more money to spend at the con.
considering the size of the UK I feel BUCK is enough. You get too many cons and the VA’s and other guests will not want to go.
Right now BUCK is in manchester which is a nice central location for both scotish and southern fans to be able to take a very short trip and stay over the weekend.
yea I know it is arrogant but Scots can pretty arrogant about stuff like that.
