All it takes is one person to be a dick, then your new fandom is tainted. As it grows, more people will join and more dicks will show up. More people will have different views and levels of tolerance. More conflict arises.
Unless you’re able to actively prevent them from joining and can remove the ones you find undesirable, you’re going to have to accept the fact that it’s just what happens to every group as they expand. It’s completely unavoidable.

Well, I think there was a lot of that at the start of MLP:FiM fandom. And even now, I think the fandom is better than many comparable ones. But when a thing gets big enough, there will be drama and infighting and stupid stuff. It’s a problem with people.
And I expect that’ll happen about the same time that pigs learn to fly.
