And fimfiction too, I’d guess.
Then you just explained most of this website then. :p
I don’t blame the show, I blame it on dudes being dudes.
The show suffers from overuse of female pony characters, both foreground and background ponies. Which comes from the desire to make a show relatable to young girls. Which inadvertently lead to young men going “omfg look at all of the hot female ponies!!1” which is the same effect that happens with anime, although anime is intentionally designed with tons of females with sex appeal to market young men….
And while those two have pony counterparts, these were obviously the human versions, so it means even less than you’d think in terms of lesbian ponies.
(As for gay stallions, how often on this show do you even see two stallions in the same place?)
The only thing that I can think of that would come close to that would be the piano scene from the Rainbow Rocks movie.
I suspect some might complain that the lesbian couple being only there to supply the issue of the week and them disappearing afterwards feels too token-y, whether the complaint is valid or not. (There would probably also be complaints about it being a Cadance episode, but that’s besides the point.)
It’s not a bad idea, it’s just… I dunno.
The best way I can think of would be if Princess Cadance was using her special talent of resolving relationship issues had her dealing with a lesbian couples relationship issues. But when she fixes their issue, the two lesbian ponies go back to being happy background ponies.
It would depend on how they handled it. If they handled it poorly it could just wind up offending more people. A token lesbian pony who adds nothing to the show except diversity would not be worth having.
Wouldn’t it be wonderful if they did though? Not from a shipping perspective, but from a “MLP breaking the societal rules” view.
They wouldn’t risk a gay/lesbian pony. There would be angry letters and boycotts and rock throwing. That the people doing these things would be in the wrong is not the point. The point is, Hasbro would never take the risk, because they know it’d stir up shit and cost them money.
As for Rarity stopping AJ mid-sentence? Even if there was subtext there, it’d say more about Rarity than Applejack, who could still not be interested even if someone else was interested in her.
Well she is canonicaly a work-a-holic and a perfectionist.
But I just cannot get over the part at the end of Simple Ways where AJ tried to say something, but Rarity stopped her mid sentence.
But of course that’s just me with my shipping goggles and being a fan of Rarijack, I’m liable to look for things that may not be there.
A lot of people want to have a canon lesbian relationship with primary characters, but I doubt they will push a gay relationship much, maybe a non primary character.
My headcanon is AJ wouldn’t have time for a relationship even if she wanted one, between the farm that takes up like half of Ponyville and running off on random adventures at the drop of a hat. She’s a busy girl.
Careful, your gender/sexuality diversity is showing.
Well. That was anticlimactic.
The answer is 42
