I admittedly don’t know about dream recall and sleep quality, though because they have to wake up to have a meal before dawn (normally around 3-4 am?) their sleep cycles tend to get messed up somewhat.
Nothing too major though, since they’re still fully functional, if a bit drowsy and lethargic.
Heightened awareness? Huh. I’m aware that a fast can be of aid in a lot of areas when done properly. Does it have effect on dream recall and sleep quality?
I have several Muslim friends who are currently fasting (due to Ramadan, the fasting month in Islam), and I know that as a side-effect of fasting they’re a bit more sensitive. And not just in terms of taste once they break fast.
Stuff like being more sensitive to touch, and or their sense of smell is better and so on. I can understand smell (since the body thinks you’re starving and is heightening its ability to detect food), but touch?
Dependancy sounds like the story of a guy who felt very hungry when he was fasting through dinner-time. And what of when people fast and then they taste more flavor in every food when starting to eat again? Dependency can be reversed by simply not drinking coffee/whatever. However, then there’s withdrawal so depending on the severity it may be best to slow down before stopping rather than slamming on the brakes at 60 MPH with Coffee in-hand and without a seat-belt.
I think Tolerance is another term i.e. when someone regularly takes drugs, the body develops a tolerance for them and so they need more of said drugs to feel the same effects.
Which of course leads to Dependency, where you need said drugs just to function. E.g. heavy smokers who find it hard to function without at least one smoke break an hour.
BTW, in the earlier comment when I wrote “And then if the person drinks it more and more the drinks have less and less of an effect?” I mean going from zero to one a week to one a day - Not going from one a day to two in a row.
So is it just me or do energy drinks act like “ZOMG! ENERGY!!!” the first time and then make the person tired later, And then if the person drinks it more and more the drinks have less and less of an effect?

I believe that’s called Diminishing Returns.
