Opaline catches a young Misty playing with butterflies outside early one morning.
So as I’m uploading this, I am just now learning about the new toy of Misty that was revealed on Equestria Daily, along with her official cutiemark (At least I assume so). I speculated that her cutiemark would indeed be a butterfly due to some references: Misty’s fake cutiemark resembles a butterfly, and she even incorporated a butterfly wing in her Nightmare Night costume. It got me thinking about what significance the insect has in her life. I did a bit of research and I learned that butterflies symbolize so many things including transformation, comfort, hope, and even freedom. All of these relate to Misty and her situation perfectly as Opaline’s timid subordinate.
As a filly, Misty would wake up early every morning to sneak outside and play with butterflies that often gathered on the hills and in the meadows near Opaline’s castle. These were the only moments where the little one truly felt free and where she could be herself. She would chase them around, let them land on her nose or horn, and just generally watch them flutter by. She absolutely loved them. But one faithful morning, Opaline caught her and ceased her playing for good, locking her in her room in the castle until she learned to “Behave”. As Misty grew up and as she began to travel to Maretime Bay on her tasks for the alicorn, she continued to show her love for butterflies by drawing a fake cutiemark that resembled one on her flank, even though she was no longer allowed to play with them.
That’s my take on it. I really think they’re going somewhere with it, now that the toy has been unveiled. I’m not sure what particular talent the cutiemark would represent, but as it resembles a butterfly, it could symbolize so many things that relate to Misty herself. When Opaline is defeated eventually, I think Misty will end up being the one to do her in, or at least be a key figure who is instrumental in her downfall.

Its a butterfly because she’s a daughter of Fluttershy(butterflies as cutie mark, personality) and Discord (affinity for chaos pranks on ponies)

It may be; we have nevertheless seen that Misty has self-confidence and self-respect in her relationship with Opaline, which suggests that she was not exposed to abuse in her upbringing with the alicorn, who may have been a very strict mother figure. The fake cutie mark and then the information from the toy front about what her cutie mark looked like might suggest that this episode is canon. Because she is easily afraid of Opaline when she was angry, and in C2 we saw that she suffers from a lack of motherly love.
• Symbol of Powerful Transformation
• Symbol of Lightness of Being
• Symbol of Call for Support
• Symbol of the Soul
It is possible that her cutie mark symbolizes transformation, empowering self-expression and lightness of herself and others. This may suggest a strong magical potential without revealing her elemental affiliation. We know Izzy sensed this when she “saw” the sparkle in Misty, and found this fascinating. When a butterfly comes into being, it was first a caterpillar. Considering Misty’s mane colors, it can be said that she will be “reborn” when she breaks with Opaline and joins the Mane 5.
I don’t think Misty is going to end Opaline. Instead, I think Misty’s betrayal and apostasy along with the very stinging defeat of the hooves on the Mane 5 will hurt the fire alicorn’s ego very badly. It will push the less corrupt alicorn closer to the cliff. That may be what the G5 teams are planning, they will show how Luna becomes Nightmare Moon by showing the process of how a pony is corrupted to the point where she accepts her dark self and becomes completely corrupted, when she has nothing to lose.
So it’s likely that a much stronger and more disciplined Sunny will have a final showdown with Opaline who will be just as corrupt and evil as Nightmare Moon/Daybreaker/Shadow Pony. This could be MLP’s answer to the epic fight between Garou and Saitama from the “One Punch Man” manga that has become legendary in the Internet. Sunny will in the end CRUSH Opaline like Garou had been crushed by Saitama.
Then a new chapter in the G5 will start. But think it will happen in several years.

I’m sure Misty will be part of defeating the prune alicorn, just like Tempest Shadow (and Darth Vader). The only question is, will she be the one to dump purple horse into the reactor, or just not help while Sunny does it.
